Spirituality and Ministries
The oldest Catholic and Jesuit institution of higher learning in the United States, Georgetown today welcomes members of all faiths, and encourages all of its students to examine the role of faith and spirituality in our increasingly global community. Georgetown is a University rooted in the Catholic faith and Jesuit tradition, committed to spiritual inquiry, engaged in the public sphere, and invigorated by religious and cultural pluralism.

- Office of Mission and Ministry
The Office of Mission and Ministry contributes to the development, animation, and coordination of the University-wide process of maintaining and promoting the Ignatian heritage, the Catholic identity and the Jesuit mission of the University. The office develops programs and initiatives which engage students, faculty, administration, staff, directors, regents, alumni and donors in the understanding of our religious identity and commitments.
- Office of Campus Ministry
Georgetown University's Office of Campus Ministry promotes the Jesuit educational mission of caring for mind, body, and spirit. Through religious services, retreats, special programs and pastoral care, Campus Ministry fosters the spiritual life of the University, affording faculty, staff, and students of all faiths the opportunity to worship within their respective traditions. Campus Ministry also provides events and opportunities which facilitate interreligious/ecumenical dialogue and understanding.
- Jesuit Community
While the University and the Jesuit Community are distinct and separately governed entities, they are united in the long tradition and common spirit of learning and faith that characterize Georgetown. The Jesuits who live and work at the University are a visible sign of Georgetown's ongoing commitment to its Catholic, Jesuit heritage. In 2006-2007, 57 members of the Society of Jesus live on-campus -- in the residence halls and in the Jesuit Community. Twenty-four Jesuits hold teaching positions in the University. An additional 10 Jesuits serve the Georgetown community in traditional pastoral capacities, work as administrators and scholars, and as friends, advisers, and mentors to students. Another nine are retired, and the remaining members of the Jesuit Community on-campus are engaged in graduate studies or other assignments in Washington.
- Retreat Programs & ESCAPE
Georgetown's nationally recognized retreat programs offer a broad range of options to all students, with specific retreats available to students of Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Muslim, and Jewish faiths. Programs range from overnight experiences featuring group discussions and reflections to Five-Day Ignatian retreats. Annually nearly 600 students participate in Campus Ministry-sponsored retreat programs. Campus Ministry also sponsors the ESCAPE Program, an overnight experience for new students of all faiths and backgrounds.
